SDA Teacher Certification/Recertification (NAD)
Griggs University/Griggs International Academy (GU/GIA) offers three options for teachers seeking Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) certification/recertification in the North American Division (NAD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church once they have obtained state teacher certification. Before choosing among the three options, you must contact your union certification registrar to find out their requirements for teacher certification/recertification.

1.Regular Griggs post-secondary courses. This is for students who are currently enrolled elsewhere and need to pick up credits to complete their course load, or for those whose conference or union requires the 3-semester-credit-hour courses for certification or recertification. To enroll in one or more of these courses, please follow the HOW TO ENROLL instructions in the Griggs University College Consortium Enrollment Packet. Send the completed FORM 1 and FORM 2 marked pages only, along with FORM 3 with payment to Griggs Enrollment Services. If your conference or union is paying part or all of the costs for your enrollment, the conference or union should send Griggs a check (payable to Griggs) for the appropriate amount. (Total cost: supplies; sales tax on supplies if they are delivered or picked up in Maryland; non-refundable shipping/handling fee; non-refundable enrollment fee; non-refundable technology fee; tuition.)

2. Challenge exams through Griggs University, for Adventist Heritage and Mission (equivalent to Adventist History), Principles of Christian Faith (equivalent to Bible Doctrines), Jesus and the Gospels, Health Principles, and Philosophy of Adventist Education. Please note: To take any of the above challenge exams, approval from your union certification registrar is required. (See instructions in the Griggs University Challenge Exam Form.)

3.Orientation to Teaching in SDA Schools Modules through Griggs University. Please see the attached Griggs University Orientation to Teaching in SDA Schools Modules for SDA Teacher Certification sheet. Each of the four modules is worth 2 semester credit hours. Orientation to Teaching in SDA Schools was designed to meet the needs of a state-certified teacher in the NAD trained in a non-Adventist college or university. To enroll in one or more of these modules, please follow the ORIENTATION TO TEACHING IN SDA SCHOOLS MODULES and the HOW TO ENROLL instructions on pages 1-2 of the Griggs University Enrollment Packet. Before sending your completed forms to GU, obtain the signature of your union certification registrar in the Program Plans section of FORM 1. . (Your conference or union may require five years of teaching before allowing the modules to be used toward SDA certification; please check with your union certification registrar regarding its policy.) Send the completed FORM 1 and FORM 2 marked pages only, along with FORM 3 with payment to Griggs Enrollment Services. If your conference or union is paying part or all of the costs for your enrollment in one or more of these modules, the conference or union should send Griggs a check (payable to Griggs) for the appropriate amount. (Total cost: supplies; sales tax if supplies are delivered in Maryland; non-refundable shipping/handing fee; non-refundable enrollment fee; non-refundable technology fee; tuition.)
